Oreo Cookies

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter room temperature
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup black cocoa powder
  • 1⅓ cup + 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 10 Oreos

  • 1/2 tsp salt

Frosting

  • 1 ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup light cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup butter room temperature
  • 4-5 tbsp milk of choice

Topping

  • 24 gummy worms

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small food processor, pulse oreos until they are all crumbled. Set aside until ready to use.

  • Add egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Mix again.
  • Pour the dry ingredients to create cookie batter: black cocoa, all purpose flour, oreo crumbs, baking powder/soda, and salt. Mix until a very black, oreo cookie batter is made.
  • Use a ½ tablespoon cookie scooper to scoop cookie dough into even balls. Roll with your hands and place cookie dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are baked.

  • Remove from the oven, allow 2-3 minutes of rest time on the sheet, and then transfer to a cooling rack and let cool completely.
  • In a separate bowl (or stand mixer), add powdered sugar, light cocoa powder, and room temperature butter. Slowly start to beat it and gradually add the milk. Frosting will start to thicken as milk is added.
  • Once it’s a luscious, thick chocolate frosting, spread onto each cookie. I used a spoon to do this, but you can also use a piping bag or ziploc bag to pipe on your frosting in a circular motion.
  • Top cookies with a gummy worm and/or additional oreo cookie crumbs. Store in the refrigerator to harden frosting or in a cool, dry environment.

These can be stored in an airtight container either on the counter or in the refrigerator if you like a chewy, chilled cookie.
