About these Oranges

Social Media will be the first place to tell you that Sumo Citrus oranges are superior to all other oranges. They’re easy to peel, taste deliciously sweet and citrusy, and are a great source of Vitamin C. And while I can’t justify always spending $5/lb for oranges, I can always justify making this Chocolate Covered Oranges recipe whenever I have them on hand!

These sweet orange slices are phenomenal when covered in a rich, luxurious dark chocolate. They make a great dessert and even a snack for kids! You can even have them help you dip them for a fun afternoon or weekend activity.

This dark chocolate covered orange recipe also reminds me of a TruFu snack. They make all kinds of frozen fruit dipped in chocolate. They’re so good, but are pretty expensive at $8 for a small bag. I have 5-8 bags on hand at all times. 😅 Make this recipe at home instead to save a little and have fun while doing it!

Recipe FAQs

How do you store chocolate covered fruit?

Store in an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for 1 week or freezer for up to 2 months.

Why is my chocolate so stiff after melting?

It’s likely your chocolate has burned or “seized.” This is why you need to stir it constantly while heating and immediately remove it once melted. However, if you catch the burning chocolate early enough, you may be able to save it by whisking in a tablespoon of water and mixing gently in an attempt to loosen the seized clumps.

What are Sumo Oranges?

Sumo Citrus oranges are those oversized funky looking oranges with the top knot you’ll see at the store. They’re a cross between a honey orange, a mandarin orange, and a sweet orange. They’re also specifically bred to amplify their sweetness and are even sweeter than clementines, making them perfect for this chocolate dipped orange recipe. Another plus, they’re seedless and easy to peel!

Do orange and chocolate really taste good together?

Duh! That’s why I’m sharing this recipe! These two flavors go so great together because of the contrast between the citrusy, tart fruit and the sweet, rich chocolate. It’s an obvious example that opposites attract.
