The Best Healthy Dessert Smoothies

There’s so much to love about smoothies. They’re quick, they’re easy, they’re versatile, they’re jam packed with healthy ingredients, and they’re customizable! Changing just one ingredient can change the entire smoothie experience never leaving you bored of the same flavors. And what’s even better as you can easily make them taste like DESSERT. So here’s a round up of my favorite healthy dessert smoothies to start your morning on sweet note, to curb that afternoon sugar craving, or as a treat to sip on after dinner.

These smoothies are certainly full of nutritious fruit and also full of protein to keep you full and satisifed. Pop in a straw to take on the go, or add to a bowl with all of your favorite toppings (may I suggest Safe and Fair granola (CODE: APAIGEOFPOSITIVITY) saves you$$), chia seeds, or a drizzle of nut butter), either way you surely won’t get bored with these tasty recipes. So let’s get to the smoothies.

Dessert Smoothie Toppings

To me, smoothies are like a blank canvas for all sorts of tasty toppings. Some of my favorites include nuts and seeds like chia, flax, hemp seeds, chopped walnuts or pecans. I also love a drizzle of nut butter or honey.

For a nice crunch I like adding cacao nibs, granola, cereal, or toasted coconut flakes. Fresh berries or dried fruit are always welcome for an extra punch of nutrients and pop of color.

My most recent obsession though, a healthy spoonful of Oat Haus Granola Butter! You can use my code COURTNEY15 if you’re looking to purchase and save some money.

Smoothie FAQs

How can I make a dessert smoothie bowl?

To turn any smoothie into a bowl, only include half of the recommended liquid. You will need to blend for a longer amount of time since the smoothie bowl will be thick. Scrape down the sides of the blender intermittently with a rubber spatula until all ingredients are well combined. You could also try adding ½ cup of oats, ¼ cup greek yogurt, or a quarter avocado or even ½ teaspoon of xanthum gum prior to blending. Any of these options will help to thicken up your smoothie and keep it super healthy.

Can I add veggies to my smoothie?

Yes! Adding 1/2 cup of frozen cauliflower would be a great option without altering flavor. Or if you want to add greens like spinach, I recommend you add those leafy veggies first with just the almond milk and then blend until smooth. This will ensure it’s blended thoroughly and you don’t gulp down any surprise spinach chunks! This is how I do it with my Spinach Mango Smoothie.

Is it better to use fresh or frozen fruit with smoothies?

For optimal texture and flavor, I recommend using frozen fruit. It results in a thicker, smoother smoothie. If you choose to use fresh fruit, you’ll want to add a cup or so of ice to 1. Make it cold and 2. turn it into more of a smoothie rather than a fruit juice.

Sweet cravings can occur anytime of day. Whether that’s early morning, early afternoon, or late night, one of these Dessert Smoothies will be the perfect option. They all taste unbelievably decadent, but are actually very healthy! Get in some extra protein, fruit, and fiber in a sip-able dessert form.
