About this Milkshake

I love the tart sweetness of key lime pie. Something about having the contrasting flavors blend so well together is so satisfying!

But I’m not always up for the sugar rush and crash that comes with enjoying a slice with a scoop of fresh ice cream or big slice of pie. So, I set out to find another way for us to enjoy the flavor! And the Key Lime Pie Milkshake was born.

This Key Lime Pie Milkshake is a lighter take on the classic dessert and one you can enjoy on the go! It’s refreshingly cold and creamy, sweet, and macro-friendly. And there are so many fun ways to dress it up and make it the dessert of your dreams!

Recipe Ingredients

Ingredients for Key Lime Pie Milkshake including yogurt, Cool Whip, lime gelatin, fresh lime, almond milk, xantham gum, and crumbled graham cracker.
  • Two Good Vanilla or Coconut Yogurt: I love the consistency and flavor of this brand!
  • Cool Whip: Works with the yogurt to help achieve a super creamy consistency.
  • Sugar-Free Lime Gelatin: Adds a wonderfully tart flavor and creaminess to recreate a key lime pie in your glass!
  • Xanthan Gum: Optional for thickness.
  • Protein Powder: Vanilla works best to create a true key lime pie taste. I used CleanSimpleEats (code APAIGE10 saves you $$).

Recipe FAQs

Can I make it dairy free?

Yep! Both dairy-free yogurt and dairy-free cool whip will work perfectly fine for this milkshake, and it’ll still taste great! You may need to adjust the amount of milk and use a little less if the dairy free yogurt you choose has a thinner consistency.

Can I make it another flavor?

Of course you can! Try using strawberry or orange gelatin with a squeeze of fresh juice from either fruit & it will taste just like a creamsicle! PERFECT for summer!

How do I make my milkshake thicker?

To make your Key Lime Pie Milkshake thicker, you could try a few different things. Add a quarter avocado or less milk with a little longer blending time. Either option will thicken the milkshake up. Plus, if you add avocado, it’ll contribute to the green color of the milkshake and also add extra creaminess.

    Amazing!!
I didn’t have any cool whip and it was still FANTASTIC. Made with plain Greek yogurt and I think it really added to the tartness! Used egg white unflavored protein powder and it worked great

  2. PERFECT SUMMER NIGHT CAP! I’ll be honest, I was hesitant to try this because I’ve tried one too many protein shakes that promise to be “yummy” and “a great consistency” and they end up foamy or icy. But wow. I am obsessed with this and I am already planning on having it for dessert tomorrow too! I sometimes get a weird aftertaste with two good yogurt so I subbed half chobani vanilla and half chobani key lime Greek yogurt and the flavor/texture was incredible!! I love that I have a reliable recipe to use as the “bones” of a yummy go-to shake, but can experiment with alternatives from what I have in my pantry! After I made the shake I threw it in the freezer for 10-15 and it firmed up and cooled off from the heat my blender added– highly recommend!! So glad I tried this!

  3. SO GOOD (just like everything else on this Paige). Made this tonight. So tart, refreshing, satisfying. 10/10 will make again

SO YUMMY!! Tried this the other night and was spot on! Will definitely be making it again, as key lime pie is one of my favorite desserts! Thanks Courtney!

  5. Key lime pie but HEALTHY?!? You’re kidding. This was so yummy. I used Greek yogurt and the yogurt really added to the tartness. Very tasty & perfect summer treat 🙂

I constantly find myself dreaming about this shake. And honestly I was a little wary in the beginning to try it because I was nervous it wouldn’t be good- but I was so wrong.
If you follow the recipe (I just add a little bit of ice, but you don’t have to), the texture is thick and creamy like a milkshake. The shake is not to “icy” or lacking any flavor. And the best part is I never feel concerned that I won’t hit my goals because of this shake. This is one of the many recipes that I have tried by Courtney, and I have been pleased with everyone!

Trust me when I say you really NEED to try this shake.

  7. 5 stars – What a creative idea!! I made this, and added some frozen cubes zucchini for a little extra frozen-ness and volume. Didn’t have xantham gum but smoothie was still very tasty!

Absolutely love all of your recipes, but the smoothie/milkshake recipes are FIRE! This is my favorite summer afternoon treat. Perfect balance of tart and sweet. Make this!
