Recipe Inspiration
I wanted a new recipe for the super bowl this year and this easy puff pastry pizza recipe came to fruition to crush the pizza cravings! They’re a great party food perfect for the big game!
Recipe Ingredients

- Puff Pastry – Frozen and thawed according to box instructions.
- Pizza Sauce – I love Mids but any red sauce will do.
- Meat – I added cooked iIalian sausage crumbles and turkey pepperonis (I used Bridgford Sliced Turkey Pepperoni).
- Cheese – I used mozzarella cheese and parmesan. Provolone, shredded cheddar, Romano, gouda or Gruyere could also be great options based upon preference.
- Pizza Seasoning – I get this from Trader Joe’s, but if you don’t have it, Italian Seasoning is an option, too.
See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Substitutions and Variations
Customize these Pizza Bites to your liking. Whatever your favorite pizza toppings are, incorporate them here! Some different toppings ideas for switching it up:
- Supreme – A combo of meats & veggies such as pepperoni, seasoned beef, mushrooms, green bell peppers and onions.
- BBQ Chicken – Shredded rotisserie chicken, barbecue sauce instead of red sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and red onion.
- Greek Style – Roasted red peppers, sliced cherry tomatoes, feta, red onion, and olives.
How to Make This Recipe
**PLEASE NOTE: whatever toppings you choose, the meats must be fully cooked and the vegetables need to be cut fine enough so they cook within the pocket!
1. Prep the puff pastry. Most are frozen so remove it from the freezer and let it come to room temperature (this is crucial as we will be rolling it out and frozen pastry dough isn’t easy to work with!)
2. Preheat the oven to 400°F. When the puff pastry is thawed, place each piece on a sheet of parchment (one on the counter and one on a baking sheet) and roll them out to thin them a bit.

3. Then spread pizza sauce on top of the pastry on the baking sheet. Spread with the back of a spoon to a thin layer.

4. Sprinkle toppings on top of the sauce: cooked sausage, turkey pepperoni, and diced red onion.

5. Then the shredded cheese goes on top to “stick” to the top puff pastry.

6. Then flip the second sheet of puff pastry onto the assembled pastry. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the pastry into squares/diagonals. This makes serving exceptionally easier!
7. Bake for 22-28 minutes until the top puff pastry sheet is golden brown and puffed.
8. Use a metal spatula to piece apart baked pizza rolls. I like to pick up either side of the parchment paper, and slide onto a large serving board with desired sauces and digging in! I did marinara sauce and RANCH (bc no pizza should ever be consumed without ranch. That’s just the midwesterner in me!)
PRO TIPS
- The puff pastry NEEDS to puff! It might look done before it actually is, so don’t just judge by the color. The tops should not only be golden, but also have buttery flakey LAYERS, too! For best results, be patient!
Recipe FAQs
These puff pastry pizza puffs are surely best fresh. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, but note that they will not be as flaky. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for 8-10 minutes at 375°.
If you find you aren’t able to get a crispy crust, you’ve likely loaded up with too many toppings. Don’t go too crazy with the sauce. If the bottom pastry is weighed down it won’t cook through.
You can prep your puff pastry pizza bites 12-24 hours ahead of time and then place the entire sheet pan in the fridge. Save the baking until JUST before serving. These are best warm out of the oven!
Serving suggestions
Dunked in your favorite sauce!! Basil pesto sauce or my homemade Goat Cheese Pesto, garlic aioli, sweet chili sauce, hot sauce. Get fancy and make this Homemade Roma Tomato Sauce.
