You’ll love this Pigs in a Blanket Dough Recipe

These are not your standard pigs in a blanket made with small weinies and crescent roll dough. The protein boost from 3-ingredient homemade dough (flour, greek yogurt + baking powder) makes them satisfying without losing the fun.

Filling enough to work as a meal, but still playful enough for a game day or as a classic party appetizer. I love a twist on a nostalgic recipe and these homemade pigs in a blanket are exactly that.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce (honey mustard, ketchup, chick-fil-a sauce?!) and you’ll be popping one after another. I really think you’re going to love these!

Substitutions and Variations

  • Switch up the seasonings included! Try everything seasoning, poppy seeds or go a little more herby with basil, oregano and parsley. Or make them a little spicy with red pepper flakes and paprika.
  • Try little sausages (breakfast sausage or Italian sausage) or kielbasa in place of the regular hot dogs. Or make them Chicago style with a Beef hot dog!

5. Roll each hot dog piece on a piece of soft dough, creating pigs in a blanket. If the dough is unraveling after rolled, wet your finger, run it along the edge of the dough, and gently ‘glue’ it so it stays.

Recipe FAQs

How do we store it?

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days. These hold up pretty well and would be easy to make in advance! I like reheating in the air fryer as opposed to the microwave so they don’t get soggy.

Do pigs in a blanket have cheese?

Pigs in a blanket do not traditionally include cheese, but many popular variations have american cheese, cheddar cheese or are dipped cheese sauce, making it a common ingredient for a “cheesy” version of the classic appetizer.

What else can I use this dough to make?

This high protein dough recipe is super versatile! Roll it out and use it as pizza dough or make into bread sticks or bagels. Just shape into your desired format and bake

Serving suggestions

Dunked in your favorite dipping sauces (I love ketchup!) mustard (yellow, Dijon, honey), ketchup, barbecue sauce, ranch dip, garlic butter or spicy alternatives like a garlic aioli or spicy mayo. For a more substantial meal or side dishes, pair them with fresh vegetables and fruit platters, green salads, dill potato salad, or even baked beans and coleslaw to balance the rich, savory flavors.
