Why You'll Love This Cheesy Pepperoni Dip
What can’t cottage cheese do? Whether you’re wanting a savory spread like this luscious Oreo Dip, or a crowd pleasing breakfast like this Loaded Hashbrown Casserole, cottage cheese can really do it all.
And the way it works with this Pepperoni Pizza Dip is no exception to its greatness. Blend it up with non-fat greek yogurt, add some marinara sauce, meat and cheese, and you have yourselves a high protein irresistible dip!
This cheesy dip is always a huge hit, and for a good reason. During football season it’s a repeat recipe in my house. Take the group’s favorite food and put it into dip form. I'm calling it a super bowl win for all of the traditional pizza fans out there.
Recipe Ingredients
- Cheese - This delicious dip is for cheese lovers. I used mozzarella cheese, cottage cheese, and Italian cheese. Feel free to add any other cheeses too. A sharp white cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese are great options.
- Greek Yogurt - Can sub sour cream or cream cheese if you want it even richer.
- Pizza Sauce - I used Rao’s. Pasta sauce works too.
- Basil - FRESH basil, finely chopped, really takes it up a notch.
- Pepperoni - I used turkey pepperonis.
- Spices - Red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, salt and oregano.

Substitutions and Variations
Choose your favorite pizza toppings. Here's our creations:
- The Courtney: Sweet & Spicy - Add sliced jalapenos, pineapple pieces, and topped with drizzle of ranch dressing.
- The Sydney: Veggie – Add black olives or green olives, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes, green bell peppers, and garnish with green onions.
- The Jack: Barbecue – Swap out pizza sauce for BBQ sauce, add diced red onion, shredded chicken, and pineapple. Omit pepperoni.
How to Make This Recipe
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. In a food processor, blend cottage cheese, greek yogurt, italian seasoning, oregano, and salt. Pulse until everything is combined.
2. Add in ½ cup each of the shredded mozzarella and Italian cheese. Pulse again until combined.
3. Spread the cheese mixture into a skillet.
4. Place the pepperoni on top of the cheese mixture.
5. Spread pizza sauce on top of the cheese/pepperoni mixture.
6. Sprinkle the remaining ¼ cup of cheese onto the top with more pepperonis. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown. Toss in the broiler for 1-2 minutes if needed! Pepperonis and cheese burn very easily.
7. While the pizza dip bakes, toast the baguette slices. Brush olive oil onto each side with a pinch of salt (or garlic salt if desired). Place on a baking sheet and put in the oven with the skillet. Bake for 16-18 minutes, flipping one time to ensure the slices don’t burn.
8. Remove the skillet from the oven, top with honey, basil pieces, and red pepper flakes. Serve with the toasted bread and enjoy!
Pro Tip
- Quarter the pepperoni or use mini pepperonis and fold them into the cheese mixture. This ensures you get pepperoni in each bite. SO YUMMY!
- If your skillet is filled to the top, add a sheet pan underneath while baking to catch any that bubbles over.
Recipe FAQs
This dip is best served fresh from the oven. If you have extra I suggest keeping right in the skillet and covering with plastic wrap. Once you’re ready to enjoy the leftovers, pop the entire dish back under the broiler for a couple of minutes to reheat and brown the top a bit more.
You could also use a blender, or skip this step and just stir the cottage cheese and yogurt together. You’ll definitely have a chunkier texture, but it is still very delicious!
The skillet I used was 9 inch diameter and ceramic, but you can instead use a cast iron skillet. If you don’t have one, you can also make this in an 8x8 baking dish or pie plate.
Serving Suggestions
Gosh, by the spoon? LOL. I love this on a toasted baguette, garlic bread, or this Pesto Focaccia. These Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks would be a perfect pairing. Double the cheese!
Or serve it with pita chips, bagel chips, pretzels or your favorite crackers. This dip would also be tasty with fresh vegetables. Not feeling dip? No problem. These Pizza Sliders are a great alternative and so delicious.

This was a huge hit for my daughter’s birthday party! It was completely devoured with just a little bit leftover—mixed into scrambled eggs the morning after and WOW. Still tasted amazing and elevated the eggs. Got asked to bring this to an Easter gathering already!
