If you spend too much money at Panera on items like their Turkey Apple Cheddar Sandwich, this lunch recipe is for you. 😘 It's my own twist on a turkey apple sandwich that's also very similar to a grab-and-go sandwich from Trader Joe's—but this one you make at home!
This sandwich features juicy roasted turkey breast, crisp apple slices, cheddar cheese right off the block, and peppery arugula, all served between some delicious sourdough bread. I also love to add some pickle coins and a spread like mustard or mayonnaise for some extra yummy flavor.
Serve it alongside a little pasta salad, some salty potato chips, or some leafy greens. This is the best turkey sandwich to make the morning of and pack for lunch later or whip up fresh at home!
What you'll need to make this Turkey Apple Cheddar Sandwich
Bread: I used two slices of sourdough from Trader Joe’s.
Turkey Breast: I used oven roasted turkey breast. Cracked pepper turkey sounds delicious, too!
Cheese: In this recipe, we'll use Havarti cheese.
Apple: Slicing up an apple and layering it on your sandwich adds such a wonderful crunch. The sweet and fresh flavor is also a plus. 😉
Arugula: I enjoy that arugula has more of a bitter flavor. You could use lettuce, spinach, or even spring mix here as well.
Dill Pickle Mustard: One of the best condiments from Trader Joe's! I love it! If you don't have one near you, regular mustard would also work.
Mayo: I used light mayo.
Pickles: I recommend adding 6-8 dill pickle coins to this sandwich.
Dill Pickle Potato Chips: Another amazing Trader Joe's find! On the sandwich, on the side of the sandwich...both are delicious.
Lemon Juice: This is optional, but I love to toss the arugula in fresh lemon juice before adding to the sandwich.
Kitchen equipment & tools needed
To make this Turkey Apple Cheddar Sandwich, you'll need a cutting board, knife, and a plate.
How to put your turkey apple sandwich together
- Lay two pieces of bread on a cutting board.
- On one slice of bread, spread a thin layer of mayo thinly and add a few slices of cheese on top. The thinner the cheese, the better. There is less chance of getting food stuck to the roof of your mouth.
- On the other slice of bread, spread dill pickle mustard and layer thinly sliced apple slices on top.
- Next, add the turkey breast on top of the apples. Then, add the pickle coins. If you’d like, add another squirt of mayo to act as some sandwich glue.
- Toss the arugula in some fresh lemon juice & salt and pepper before adding it on top of the turkey.
- For extra crunch, add dill pickle chips to the sandwich on top of the arugula.
- Now, let's flip the sandwich together. Take the piece of bread with just mayo and cheese on it and place it on top of the other slice. Push it all together. You'll hear a crunch if you add potato chips to it 🙂
- Slice in half and ENJOY!
