introducing the delicious grilled peanut butter and jelly
I know what you must be thinking. A Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich? Trust me. It's absolutely out of this world. Some might even say it's lifechanging.
Imagine a cheese sandwich. It has a couple slices of cheese between between two plain slices of bread. It tastes good...but it doesn't taste great. You know what I mean? But then you slap some butter down on a skillet and let the bread toast and cheese melt...it completely elevates the sandwich! Think of this grilled PB&J just like that.
Warm peanut butter and jelly on toasty bread...it's almost like dessert. And it has the perfect peanut butter and jelly ratio. The heat really plays up the sweet and earthy flavors, so much so that they're practically oozing out of the sandwich! And the warmth will just fill you with joy.
You've got to try this take on the classic lunch sandwich! After you eat it, you're gonna want to make five more.
Grab these ingredients to make your grilled pb&j
Cooking Spray: We'll spray this on the skillet to keep our sandwich from sticking and burning. You could also use butter if you prefer.
Bread: I love to use fresh bread on sandwiches. It really makes them taste so much better! For this grilled PB&J, I used two slices of fresh bakery bread of Fresh Tuscan Pane from La Brea Bakery, which I purchased at my local Kroger.
Peanut Butter: I used two heaping tablespoons of Jif All Natural peanut butter.
Jelly: I used Trader Joe’s Organic Reduced Sugar Strawberry Preserves. Use what you like!
the same tools as a grilled cheese

Tips for the best Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
Use your favorite bread. I think a softer loaf works best for grilling this sandwich, but follow your heart. For a more decadent twist, try it on brioche bread. Using a tortilla is also a great idea to make a grilled PB&J quesadilla.
Don’t stop at strawberry jelly. Jam, fruit preserves, or even some mashed up fresh fruit are all perfect candidates for this grilled sandwich. Change up the flavor too! Raspberry, blackberry, blueberry—whatever you’re craving.
Additional add-ins are welcomed with open arms. Slices of banana or another fruit surely have a place in this sandwich. You may also want to add a sprinkle of cinnamon, a drizzle of honey, some chopped nuts, or seeds like chia or flax.
If you’re taking this sandwich with a fork and knife, Greek yogurt would be a great topping. If you’re wanting to adventure with a sweet and savory combo, try it with a fried egg or a grilled peanut butter and jelly with bacon. Yep, I said it! 🤤
Frequently asked questions
How do I store this grilled PB&J?
I don't recommend that you store it. It’s best served when fresh. If it's not as warm as you'd like, you can also throw it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes.
Any tips for success?
You can also use fresh butter on your bread instead of cooking spray. It makes it extra delicious!
How do I prevent the sandwich from burning?
Keep the skillet at medium heat. Any hotter will burn your bread!
Do I need to butter each side of the sandwich like I would a grilled cheese?
If you’re using cooking spray, you don’t have to! But you will definitely want to grease your pan in some way so your bread doesn’t burn. If you don’t have cooking spray, buttering the pan or the bread will work fine.
Crunchy or creamy peanut butter?
You pick. Both are delicious! You can also try almond, cashew, sun butter, or heck, go big and lather on same Oathaus granola butter!
Can I prep and freeze this sandwich?
I wouldn't recommend this. This sandwich is best enjoyed fresh. However, you can keep the bread frozen and pull it out whenever you're ready to make it.
