No, Cinco De Mayo is not Mexico’s independence day. Cinco De Mayo is actually the mark of the Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on March 5, 1862 in the Franco-Mexican war. Outside of Puebla, where the battle took place, Cinco De Mayo is a relatively minor holiday throughout Mexico. But in the United States where the holiday is quite popular and has developed into a celebration of Mexican heritage, culture, and cuisine. I know for sure that I am ALL for the celebration especially when it comes to the food. Read on for all the delicious Mexican recipes to enjoy for Cinco De Mayo and let me know in the comments which one you’re making!
Taco Tuesday is simply people eating tacos (or other Mexican recipes) on Tuesdays. In many U.S. cities, restaurants will often do specials on Tuesdays encouraging people to go out for tacos.
Rice, beans, salsa, guac, slaw. Any of the sides listed above would be a great addition to your taco pot luck. You could also offer to bring the tortillas/taco shells or just the taco meat. Follow the taco filling recipe from my Ranch Taco Salad for perfectly seasoned ground beef.
