For those of us who just can’t stomach a straight up liquor shot, this Jameson Green Tea Shot Recipe is the perfect way to start the party. Just a few ingredients and some mediocre bartending skills until you’ve got a sweet and sour shooter everyone will love.

Green Tea Shot Recipe
What is a green tea shot? A green tea shot is classically a mixture of whiskey, peach Schnapps, sour mix, and soda or lemonade. Yes, you read that right. A green tea shot doesn’t actually contain green tea.
The color of the shot comes out to be a faint green resembling an iced green tea, which is where the name comes from.
The Jameson Whiskey company actually invented the green tea shot and it’s also referred to as “Jameson Green Tea”. So if you want to make it classically, Jameson is the way to go.

Jameson Green Tea Shot Ingredients
- Whiskey – Jameson Whiskey is classic for a green tea shot.
- Peach Schnapps – Fruity flavor and some sweetness!
- Sprite – Perfect balance of lemon and lime and also tones down the strength of the shot.
- Lemon & Lime Juice – The fresh citrus brightens up the drink.
- Lime & Sugar – Lime zest mixed into cane sugar creates a fun mixture to rim the glasses with.

Substitutions and Variations
Liquor – Feel free to substitute the Jameson with bourbon or whiskey. You can also make a white tea shot with vodka, instead.
Sprite – Any lemon lime soda will do. 7UP, Sierra Mist, Squirt.
Citrus – If you have it, you can use sour mix instead of the lemon, lime and simple syrup.
Simple Syrup – If you don’t have simple syrup on hand, to add sweetness you can use agave or honey mixed with a little warm water to thin it out. Put a herbal spin on these shots and make a homemade Jasmine Syrup!
How to Make a Jameson Green Tea Shot
- Add whiskey, peach schnapps, simple syrup, and the juice of a lemon and lime to a cocktail shaker. Shake for 20-30 seconds until combined. (optional) Use the juiced lime rinds to rim the shot glasses. Dip in a lime zest + sugar mixture.
2. Top each shot with sprite / lemon-lime soda (never shake carbonation). Pour into the rimmed glasses. Serve the shots with lime wedges and enjoy! Please drink responsibly.
PRO TIPS
- Use a mason jar or tightly sealed water bottle if you don’t have a cocktail shaker.
- You want this cocktail COLD. If your ingredients aren’t cold to begin with, add some ice to the shaker. I also recommend chilling the shot glasses in the freezer before making your drink.
- If you want a stronger shot, leave out the soda.
Do green tea shots contain green tea?
Classically, no. A Green Tea Shot does not contain any amounts of tea. The name simply comes from its color slightly resembling the color of an actual green tea. Similar to my White Tea Shot recipe, the name simply comes from the color it radiates.

Green Tea Shots are more diluted than your average shot. The liquor is accompanied by a lemon lime soda, like Sprite, and a sweet + sour mixture which is made up of simple syrup and citrus.
They are a balance of sweet and sour with a little warmth and fruitiness from the liquors. They do not taste strongly of alcohol as compared to many other shots.

Ingredients
- 3 oz Jameson Whiskey
- 3 oz Peach Schnapps
- 4 oz Sprite
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 lime, juiced
- 2 tbsp sugar and zest of 1 lime, for rim
