Ingredients in Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Bananas - The more ripe your bananas, the better! Once they're speckled with brown or turning more brown-is than yellow, you know they'll be good. Then simply mash them with a fork or your hands.
Eggs - Are a binding agent to hold the bread together and help it rise while baking.
All-Purpose Flour - Using all-purpose flour versus gluten free creates the nostalgic, classic banana bread flavor + texture of my childhood! I wouldn't recommend subbing for a gluten free flour unless you're up to experimenting with it because I haven't.
White Sugar - The same as the flour, nothing beats the real deal white granulated sugar!
Butter - The buttery essence of real, cows milk butter is the best for the banana bread. Keeps it fluffy and moist unlike some of the low-fat substitutions out there.
Chocolate Chips - I loooove the combination of chocolate chips + banana bread but you could also sub for pecans which are just as tasty. OR do both, half chocolate chips and half pecans.
Greek Yogurt - Makes this banana bread extra thick and moist, I promise you can't even taste it!
How to Make Easy Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and grease (2) 8 x 4 loaf pans (or just do one big one and pour extra batter into muffin tins, etc)
- Beat sugar and room temperature butter together until combined.
- Combine eggs, mashed bananas, greek yogurt, and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Beat together until fluffy.
- Pour in all dry ingredients (flour, baking soda & powder, pinch of salt, ground cinnamon) besides the chocolate chips into the bowl - do not mix until everything is added (if you want, you can fold together the dry ingredients into a separate bowl - but I like less dishes so that’s why this recipe is the way it is HA).
- Once the batter is consistent, fold in chocolate chips.
- Pour batter into greased 8 x 4 loaf pan - top with more chocolate chips if desired
- Bake for 50 minutes or slightly under until toothpick comes out clean.
- Serve warm with your favorite cup of tea/milk/coffee or just inhale by the slice
Make It Your Own!
I'm being 100% honest when I say I LOVE this easy chocolate chip banana bread as is. The combination of banana and chocolate chips makes my tastebuds (and heart) happy! BUT I also think you could switch things up to make this banana bread customized to your preferences. Here are some ideas:
- Add pecans or walnuts for an extra crunch or do half chocolate chip, half nuts to keep the chocolate in there.
- Sub white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips for the milk chocolate. You could also get real crazy and do chopped peanut butter cups!
- Add dried cranberries or raisins with pecans or walnuts and make this into a trail mix banana bread.
- Sub for a vegan butter to keep this dairy-free. To make it entirely vegan you'd have to experiment with egg replacements which I personally haven't tested with this bread! So do so at your own risk. You'd also have to switch the greek yogurt for a thick vegan alternative.
- Once the bread has baked, try drizzling melted chocolate or peanut butter overtop to make this into more of a dessert bread.
- To make muffins instead, simply divide the batter evenly in muffin tins and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out with only a few crumbs.
